Ghost in the Shell es un anime de ciencia ficción de 52 capítulos en total basado en el manga de Masamune Shirow.
Este thriller futurista de espionaje fusiona la filosofía con la el estilo del cyberpunk más duro y nos presenta a Motoso Kusanagi, una cyborg (un cuerpo casi artificial con un cerebro humano), a cargo de las operaciones encubiertas de la “Sección 9”, quien se ocupa de los crímenes tecnológicos.
Aun siendo un anime de acción, la historia transcurre bastante lentamente. Sin embargo, es uno de los más sobresalientes trabajos realizados en este género. Expone muchos interrogantes en relación a la deshumanización que el futuro nos depara a causa del avance desenfrenado de las nuevas tecnologías.
Asimismo, la primera película sigue con el estilo de animación de forma fluida e impresionantemente detallada, pero la segunda película incluso supera con creces a las demás, la animación es asombrosa, puesto que el grado de realismo es sorprendente por su amplificado detallismo.
